react Magazine:
From late 1994 through mid 1996, I was the Senior Art Director and third on the masthead for reactMagazine, a subsidiary of Parade Publications, New York City. Pre-publication, I was one of two
original prototype designers; we helped form the editorial concept, created the logo, identity, visual
personality and layout of this new weekly publication for teens. It was distributed via newspapers
across the county; after the launch, circulation rose to 4.2 million copies per week.
My co-designer became one of my consulting designers, and three more designers were added to
the staff, along with a Photo Editor and Assistant Photo Editor. I worked on every cover, including
digital photo retouching and special effects, in addition to managing the design and photo staff. Also,
I directed photo shoots, contracted illustrators and participated in weekly editorial meetings regarding
content and new story ideas. The magazine continued successfully after my departure; however,
it is no longer in existence because of rising costs of newsprint and a drop in advertising.
